CERTIFICATIONS:

CCA – (Certified Coding Associate): the is a starting point certification for individuals entering a career as a coder

Exhibit a level of commitment, competency, and professional capability that employers are looking for

Demonstrate a commitment to the coding profession

Distinguish themselves from non-credentialed coders and those holding credentials from organizations less demanding of the higher level of expertise required to earn AHIMA certification

Requirements:

Completion of a medical billing and or coding certification program or equivalent

Experience in the medical administration field (6ms-1yr)

CAP-(CLAIMS ASSISTANCE PROFESSIONAL): this is a membership certification and requires no experience but allows members to prep and prepare for other certifications.

REQUIREMENTS:

Three letters of recommendation
Experience or history in the medical field
Doctor’s, consultant, or home-based business

CHRS-(certified healthcare reimbursement specialist): questions designed to test your knowledge about the various facets of the medical billing profession. It includes questions pertaining to Medicare rules and regulations, coding issues, medical terminology and an array of general healthcare reimbursement issues.

Requirements:

1yr experience in the field or completion of qualified course
Score of 85% or higher to pass exam

CMRS-(Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist): voluntary national credential that was created specifically for the medical billing professional. American Medical Billing Association (AMBA) has been providing this industry certification and designation for nearly a decade.

REQUIREMENTS:

To take the exam and keep the CMRS credential up to date one has to be a member of the AMBA.

In most instances, exam enrollment will be granted the same day the exam is purchased.

One has a 45 day period to complete the exam once enrolled.

One must score 85% or higher overall to pass the exam.

Upon passing the exam, one is awarded the CMRS designation and mailed a certificate suitable for framing.

One is required to earn 15 continuing education units (CEUs) each year to maintain the CMRS certification along with a membership in AMBA. Fifty percent of the annual CEUs must come through the association

Medisoft V16 – (Functional Medical Practice Software) this software is used in medical, dental and veterinary medical billing.

Office Hours - (Scheduling software) software use in scheduling hospital rounds, surgery, appointments, conferences, and front offices functions. Also, used in other businesses as a scheduler for areas such as: mortgage, dental, health insurance deadlines, etc.
